Make it an EARLY START OHIO summer!

First Session: June 21 - July 23, 2010
Second Session: July 26 - August 27, 2010

Early Start Freshman Summer Experience is an innovative program designed for newly admitted Ohio University freshmen to help you get a head start on your Ohio University studies.

Open to the entire freshman fall 2010 class, Early Start in Athens is a fully integrated program offering a residential, credit-bearing curriculum coupled with a full range of student services designed to address the specific needs of first-year students. It's an ideal opportunity for you to gain the confidence you need to succeed at OHIO

OHIO offers two 5-week summer sessions. You can choose to attend one or both sessions, during which you will:

  • Attend Bobcat Student Orientation: During this day-long session you will receive advising, complete placement testing, register for summer classes, and much more.
  • Opt to move in on Friday evening following orientation. Relax! Take your time and enjoy an evening picnic on the green for you and your family.
  • Register for 1-4 classes. Students are required to take UC 190, Learning Communities and may also register for tier requirements, core requirements, major requirements, or classes of special interest.
  • Live on-campus in a residence hall. Early Start Freshman participants will be grouped together in Adams Hall on South Green and will have plenty of opportunities to mix with continuing Ohio University students.
  • Live near campus? Consider the option to enroll in the program without completing a Summer housing contract. This option is only for Early Start Freshman participants who live within commuting distance (50 miles).
  • Register for classes during first session (June 21-July 23) or second session (July 26-August 27) or both! Students who attend both sessions receive the second session housing free.
  • Participate in activities! During Early Start there are a large variety of educationally supportive and extracurricular activities outside the classroom.
  • Access financial aid, if you are eligible. Financial aid may cover some of the expenses of the Early Start Freshman Summer Experience Program. To apply for financial aid, you must complete a 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Jump ahead of the rest of the 2010 class of freshmen--attend the Early Start Freshman Summer Experience Program. This means you will register for fall classes before the majority of incoming freshmen; guaranteeing you first choice on classes that fill quickly.

Only freshman students who have already been admitted to Ohio University for Fall 2010 are eligible to participate in the Early Start Freshman Summer Experience. A limited number of new freshman students can be accommodated and registration to the program is on a first-come, first-served basis.
