Renewal requirements are as follows:

Holders of four-year certificates issued after Sept. 1, 1998, must complete six hours of coursework, or the equivalent as approved by the LPDC, to transition to licensure. Note: The final date for renewal of a four-year provisional certificate issued prior to Sept. 1, 1998, has already passed.  It would be necessary to complete requirements for transition to licensure.

Holders of eight-year certificates issued before Sept. 1, 1998, who wish to exercise their right to one final renewal under the former standards, must complete 12 semester hours of coursework or the equivalent as approved by the LPDC.  For each year of teaching under the current certificate, one hour of coursework can be waived.

Holders of eight-year certificates issued before Sept. 1, 1998, who wish to transition to a five year license must complete six semester hours of coursework or the equivalent as approved by the LPDC.

Holders of lapsed certificates must complete nine semester hours of coursework if the certificate is lapsed for fewer than five years.  Holders of certificates that have lapsed for five years or more must complete 12 semester hours of coursework.

Holders of a two-year provisional license who have not met the requirements for transition to the five-year professional license must complete three semester hours of coursework to renew that license.

Holders of a five-year license must complete the equivalent of six semester hours of coursework for renewal. 

For Educators Not Employed in the Schools of Ohio: 

All coursework or other professional development activities must be completed by September 1 of the year the certificate or license expires, and applications may submitted until December 31 of that year.

Note: CEU courses can ONLY be used for recertification if you are a current full-time educator who falls under the oversite of an LPDC.
