THREE EASY STEPS TO ARRANGE YOUR PROCTOR!

STEP ONE: Proctor Overview
Proctors verify that exams are administered under the proper conditions.

Proctored exams must be taken in the presence of an approved proctor in an educational facility.
A proctor is usually someone who is employed full-time in education. The following is a list of approved proctors for exams:

  • Faculty and Staff at public or private colleges and universities
  • Full-time school or public librarian
  • Guidance counselor/counseling staff
  • Full-time teacher, principal, or superintendent
  • Education Center staff
  • Human Resource education staff
  • Corporate training or education officer
  • Embassy education staff
  • Military base/station education staff
  • Local college testing center
Relatives, employers, or church leaders are NOT approved proctors.

A Proctor must do the following when an exam is administered:
  • Proctor the student in an educational facility. (No proctoring may take place at a private residence.)
  • Verify the identity of the student.
  • Keep the exam in the sealed envelope until the student is ready to take it.
  • Verify that the student took the exam without use of unauthorized books, notes, or reference aides of any kind.
  • Remain in the room with the student while he or she takes the exam.
  • Verify that the student did not leave the room during the exam.
  • Collect all the papers and questions at the conclusion of the exam.
  • Sign an examination coversheet verifying that the exam was supervised under the proper conditions.
  • Seal and return the exam to the faculty member in the envelope provided.
STEP TWO: Select a Proctor
Students may select the proctor site which is most convenient for them, but it is the responsibility of each student to contact and schedule a proctor for testing.

Please note that every effort is made to provide proctor sites which are free to the student or that charge a minimal fee, however some sites charge a significant fee for this service. Students are responsible for paying any proctor fee charged.

STEP THREE: Schedule your Proctor, date, and time
You must schedule and reserve a testing date for each proctored exam even if you return to the same proctor for the second exam. To schedule an exam in the Athens, OH Testing Center please use our calendar. Please reserve your test dates and times on the calendar system at least 24 hours prior to the test time. Directions to the Athens Testing Center are available here. Be aware that you will be monitored by video surveillance and computer software while testing.

To schedule an exam at one of Ohio University's other campus locations, please contact that campus directly to reserve a proctoring date and time.
