General Course Requirements

Basis for Grading in the Course:

2 major components: Tests and Discussion Board.

4 Tests @ 17.5% each (70%). They will take place approximately every two and one half weeks. These will be take-home tests consisting of long answer essay questions. You will be able to use your text and the Internet. You will be required to cite your Internet sources of information in bibliographical form. Wikipedia is not an allowable reference.

Each test will cover two chapters from your text, and will have two to four questions per test. Each question will have several subquestions. You will first see these questions on the first day of each exam at 6 am; there is no study guide for this course.

You will have almost three full days to complete each test, whose answers you can either email to me, or copy and paste into to the test, which will be posted on Blackboard for a two day period. If you email the answers to me, you must include the question with each answer and put the whole document in Word format. You can use the Internet for gathering resources for your answers in addition to using your text. You must cite those Internet resources you used in a bibliography at the end of your test document, whether you post them in the test itself or in a Word document.

4 Discussion Board Topics @ 7.5% each (30%). The Course Documents page will provide four articles pertaining to topics that relate to the theoretical and/or critical exploration of art as covered in AH 211. Read the article and then move to the Discussion Board, where you will find questions related to each article. Respond to those questions by creating a new thread under the question. Each answer should have a minimum of 125 words. Responses to each article will be due every two and a half weeks: Article 1 (Romanesque architecture)-January 19; Article 2 (Giotto)-February 6; Article 3 (Perugino)-February 23; Article 4 (Mannerist sculpture)-March 14. One article at a time will post in the Course Documents page.

Combined, these components add up to 100% of your course grade.
