Course
Description

Medical terms associated with body systems, disease processes, laboratory tests, and clinical procedures commonly found in the health care setting. Emphasis on the development of appropriate administrative policies and procedures based on selective disease processes.

Prerequisites

BIOS 103 or 170.

Course Objectives

  • To develop an understanding of the formation of medical words.
  • To enhance awareness of patient communication about illness and the use of medical terminology.
  • To better understand the modes of communication utilizing medical terminology within healthcare organizations.
  • To utilize medical terminology as it relates to various body systems, diseases and healthcare tests, procedures and administration.

You must have your text at the beginning of the quarter. You have an assignment and a quiz the first week of class that test your understanding of the material in the text.

Exams
Requirements

Ten (10) Weekly Quizzes taken online.  One (1) Final Exam taken online - No proctoring required

How are exams to be taken: all Online Quizzes and the Final Exam will have time limits for completion. The time limits will be stated at the beginning of the quiz/exam. They will also have to be taken once they are begun.  They may not be saved, paused or retaken. Failure to complete the quiz/exam within the time limit may result in a deduction of points from the final score for the quiz/exam.

The Weekly Quizzes will cover the material presented that week. They are to be taken online by the weekly deadline. Failure to complete and properly submit a quiz by the deadline will result in a grade of 0 for the quiz.

The Final Examination will be available during Final Examination Period.  It will be taken online and is comprehensive covering all the material presented during the quarter. It must be completed within the stated time limit. It must be completed and properly submitted by the deadline or you will receive a grade of 0 for the Final Examination.

Dates of Exams
The Weekly Quizzes must be taken each week by the following Monday at 12:00 noon.

The final examination will be available during the final examination period and must be completed and properly submitted by Friday, March 19, 2010 at 12:00 noon.
