Course
Description

Theories of aging involving changes in structure and performance. Emphasis on normal aging changes, mental changes, mental health, health promotion, and community health.

Prerequisites

None



Methods of Course Instruction

Blackboard course content, email submissions, power point presentations.


Course Objectives

  1. To identify major aging processes in older populations, noting differences according to age, gender, ethnic, and socio-economic background.

  2. To identify factors which promote wellness and longevity in the elderly,. with particular emphasis upon gender and ethnic differences.

  3. To become aware of the complexity of issues related to the provision of health care and complimentary services in light of the two major societal trends:  the growth of an aging population and  major advances in technology.

  4. To critically analyze research efforts directed toward a particular disease entity with respect to either treatment modalities or methods by which to ameliorate the lifestyles of older persons suffering from such an ailment.
