Course
Description

This is a 4 hour course. This course will attempt to provide the student with a basic understanding of the rehabilitation principles and techniques used with hearing impaired children and adults.  Emphasis will be placed upon the practical application of the material to real life problems encountered with this population.

Methods of Course Instruction

All course content is presented on the World Wide Web; e-mail is used for submission of assignments, as well as for the instructor's evaluation and comments.

Course Objectives

  1. To expose students to various communication disorders related to hearing.

  2. To demonstrate how hearing aids and other assistive listening technology can assist individuals with hearing loss.

  3. To increase understanding of the different communication options available for both adults and children who have hearing loss.

  4. To expose students to different techniques used to develop auditory, speechreading and lipreading skills in individuals with hearing loss.

The book will be your primary resource however the instructor will sometimes provide supplemental lectures and articles to the readings. The lectures and articles are to be used to help guide you when reading the assigned chapters. You will be responsible for the material from your readings

Exams
Requirements

One exam (comprehensive final exam)- Proctoring required

How are exams to be taken: The exam will consist of multiple choice questions and true/false. The final is a computerized, proctored exam. You will have 2 hours to complete the exam. You may only take the exam once.

Dates of Exams
The exam will be available the first 3 days of finals week.
