Course
Description

Introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics with emphasis on inferential statistics.

Prerequisites

No credit for both 221 and any of the following: MATH 251, PSY 121, QBA 201, COMS 301, ECON 381.

Methods of Course Instruction

All needed study and Lesson materials are available online on Blackboard. Two textbooks (Howell, and, Bruning and Kintz) are needed to answer the weekly Submitted Lessons and also, for the open book exams.  Study Guides which are similar to detailed lecture notes presented in a Question/Answer format are available on Blackboard to guide the student to understanding the assigned materials.  Lessons (60 to 85 questions for each) must be completed and submitted weekly via regular email.

Course Objectives

The course objectives are to help the students to: 1) identify and understand the appropriate statistical procedures and tests and then, apply them appropriately to data, 2) make and understand the appropriate calculations to carry out those tests, and 3) draw appropriate conclusions regarding what those calculations and test results mean.

General Course Requirements

Submitted Lessons (60-85 questions each) are required each week of the 10 week quarter.  In addition, four data analysis projects, and, a midterm and a final exam are required (considered as Lessons 5 and 10 respectively).  Grades are based on the sum of points earned on the Lessons (approximately 45% of the final grade) + Data Analysis Projects (approximately 10%) + Midterm (approximately 20%) + Final Exam (approximately 25%). If you are in Athens, you will take the exams during the 5th week (Midterm) and 10th week (Final) in Room 018 of Haning Hall.  If you are away from Athens (Bachelors Completion Program, Regional Campus, internship, working, out of country, etc.), no problem; you will be given instructions regarding taking the exams and scheduling a proctor.
