Principal Preparation Program |
The Principal Preparation Program is a two-year, practical exploration into the essential components of educational leadership in a district or school. Through a blend of online and in-class instruction, a student masters the skills needed to tackle the everyday challenges of education. |
The Principal Preparation Program offers:
-
A hands-on, substantive curriculum in which the student is prepared to lead and ready to hit the ground running as an administrator
-
A master’s degree in educational administration and/or an Ohio principal’s license
-
Two yearlong internships (four semesters total) in which the student observes, participates, and takes the initiative to manage and operate a school
-
Courses taught by current and former educational practitioners who teach skills and applicable methods needed to handle on-the-job situations
-
Mentors who provide a channel for students to try methods taught in the classroom with an advisor’s guidance and support
The program is geared toward leaders, and past participants include teachers, coaches, band directors, cheerleading advisors, and other key players in schools. Those who have completed it have worked as principals, superintendents, or other educational administrators. |
Cohorts
The program has three cohorts:
-
Eastern/Zanesville with a rotating residency at the Ohio Valley ESC in Cambridge and Ohio University's Zanesville Campus
-
Chillicothe/Southern with a rotating residency at Ohio University’s Chillicothe Campus in Chillicothe, Ohio, and Southern Campus in Ironton, Ohio
-
Pickerington with a residency at the Pickerington Center in Pickerington, Ohio
Plans are underway for beginning a new cohort in Athens with a residency at McCracken Hall on the main campus in Athens beginning in summer of 2013.
Each cohort meets once a month on Saturdays from September through the beginning of June (nine times) and twice a week for eight weeks in the summer. The monthly meetings will be held on dates determined by the cohort, which provides flexibility to fit a student’s busy lifestyle. |
